The world lost a grand lady with the passing of Neoma Eva (Robison) Goddard. Neoma was born December 31, 1926 to Tom and Lottie Ann Robison in Oklahoma City, OK, and died peacefully at her home, July 9, 2008. As a girl, she and her family worked on cotton farms near Holdenville until her father got a job with Phillips petroleum in Oklahoma City.
She graduated from Crooked Oak H.S. in 1944. Neoma grew into a very determined young woman who ventured out to make her own way in the world during a time when women were expected to be at home. She graduated from Blackwood Davis Business School and went to work for the Department of Agriculture where she met a young clerk named Kenneth Goddard who swept her off her feet. They married in 1951, and in 1958 started Goddard Ready-Mix Concrete, Inc. where they worked side by side until Kenneth’s death in 1997. In addition to building a successful business, Kenneth and Neoma were instrumental in reviving the Oklahoma Ready-Mix Concrete Association, where Neoma served as Secretary-Treasure from the early 70’s to 1988.
Neoma had a remarkable green thumb and could grow a plant in anything, including one of Kenneth’s old work boots. She also enjoyed going dancing, horse racing and spending time with Kenneth and their three precious daughters. Neoma is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her daughters, Jean Ann Southern, Kelly Eva Goddard-Cooke, Susie Evelyn Dealy and husband, Todd, all of Midwest City; grandchildren, David Southern of Plano, Texas, Elizabeth Southern , Chadwick Cooke, Kalyn Dealy and Chase Dealy, all of Midwest City, OK; one sister, Mildred Hake, of Minco, OK and one brother, Tim Robison of Boynton Bay, Florida.
A public viewing will be held Friday, July 11, 2008 from 5PM to 9PM at the Sunny Lane Funeral Home, 4000 SE 29th. Funeral service will be held at the Nicoma Park Church of Christ, 2420 Overholser, Nicoma Park, OK 73066. Interment will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
