

Richard King Christner (Dick, Chris) was born May 27, 1925 in Upper Tyrone, PA, to Ebbert Clinton and Ruth Pearl (King) Christner. He passed away at home surrounded by his family on November 22, 2011, after losing a hard fought battle to cancer.
He grew up in Steubenville, OH, and later joined the US Navy. He served in many campaigns during World War II, and received many medals and battle stars. He met the love of his life, Elsie Mae Arva at the Navy depot in Mechanicsburg, PA. They were married on March 1, 1945 in Harrisburg, PA. After the Navy, Richard went to work as an Explosive Safety Officer and was stationed at Olmstead Air Force Base, Middletown, PA and then transferred to Griffis Air Force Base, Rome, NY. He moved to Del City in 1967, where he lived for 44 years, after his last transfer to Tinker Air Force Base, Midwest City, OK. He retired from TAFB after 40 years of service. His favorite pastime was watching his grandsons, Sean and Adam, play any kind of sport. When not doing that, you could find him working in his yard or at his favorite casino with his wife.
Preceded in death by his parents, Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie; four children: Terri Sabina and husband Mark of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Rick Christner and wife Olivia of Oklahoma City; Ranee Tillis and husband Jim of Mt. Sterling, OH; Robin Iago and husband Arnie of Newcastle; sisters: Dorothy Porter of Steubenville, OH, Janet Mitchell of Cambridge, OH and Nancy Brem and husband Ralph of Pittsburgh, PA; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to send a special thank you to the aides and nurses of Alleve Hospice and Meadowlake Retirement Village for their loving care.
The visitation schedule is as follows: Wednesday, November 23, 2011 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, November 24, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, November 25, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 26,, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home in Del City. Burial will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society.
