

Richard E. Ebersole, 89, went to be with his Heavenly Father on November 5, 2010. He was born on July 30, 1921 to Samuel M. and Katie M. Ebersole in Elizabethtown, PA. He was a student athlete involved in numerous sports where he excelled in boxing and baseball and graduated from Elizabethtown High School Class of 1940. He served his country with the 556th Air Service Group and briefly with the 81st Fighter Squadron APO 959 at Hickman Field, Territory of Hawaii. He was a member of the Hickman Field Wingman baseball team and was much honored to be selected to be a member on a Goodwill Touring Baseball Team to Japan at the end of WWII. He was awarded the WW II Victory Medal and received an Honorable Discharged from the Army Air Force in 1947. He began a successful civil service career at Olmsted AFB, PA and was transferred to Tinker AFB, OK in 1967 where he was a Quality Control Specialist with numerous awards and recognitions before retiring with 38 years of civil service and immediate subsequent employment with two different government defense contractors. In his retired years, Richard could be found tinkering in his garage or spoiling his grandkids. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather with a smile that could light up a room. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; 10 siblings and his wife, Mary, of 47 years. Richard is survived by a son, David Ebersole, and wife, Dohna; grandchildren, Megan and Katelyn. He is also survived by a sister Dorothy Linebaugh of Hershey, PA and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank everyone at Sienna Extended Care and Quality Care Hospice for taking such good care of Richard.
