

Richard Odell Slayter, a treasured patriarch, community stalwart, and friend to many, he passed away peacefully on February 10, 2024, in the comfort of his home with the love of his life at his side. Born on January 16, 1947, to the late Lemuel and Juanita Slayter. Richard 's life was one marked by dedication, service, and the warmth of his engaging personality.
Richard grew up in Oklahoma City, Ok alongside his brother Gordon, and attended Capitol Hill High School, graduating in 1965. He furthered his education at Oklahoma State University, where he studied Engineering and Drafting, laying the groundwork for what would be a distinguished career as a business owner, and postal worker. Richards 's professional life was characterized by a meticulous dedication to his craft, serving the general public for 50 + years before his well-earned retirement.
In 1988, Richard married his lifelong love, Margaret “Lea” Slayter, and together they built a life rich in love and laughter. Their life was one of active engagement with the world around them. Richard’s legacy is carried on through his family, whom he loved with every fiber of his being.
Richards 's service extended beyond his professional life into his country, as he proudly served in the United States Army for 4 years. His commitment to his nation was paralleled only by his dedication to his community, where he was a familiar face at the local church, offering a helping hand wherever it was needed.
Richard's hobbies reflected his love for life and learning, Richard also found pleasure in the simple joys of life: yard work, coin collecting and enjoyed the outdoors. His quick wit and love for storytelling made him the heart of every gathering. Holidays were a special time in the Slayter home, with Richard's stories and singing becoming the stuff of family legend. His unique and advanced coin collection was the backdrop for cherished memories, teaching his grandchildren the patience and joy of collecting.
Richard was predeceased by his parents Lemuel and Juanita Slayter, brother Gordon Slayter, and his son Thomas Bashant. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his wife Margaret “Lea” Slayter, children Michelle Hyatt, Richard Slayter Jr and Ronnie Bashant, his adored grandchildren Shawn, Amber, Brandi and Brittany and numerous great grandchildren who will continue to walk in the light of his wisdom.
Richard Slayter will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him. His life was well-lived, full of purpose, joy, and an abundance of love.
