Sandra Mae Day, 74, lived life serving and blessing others -- strangers, neighbors, her Christian brothers and sisters at Southeast Church of Christ and Eastside Church of Christ, co-workers, and especially her family. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Wes Day; her children, Kim and Ken Richter and Ryan and Allison Day; her grandchildren: Lauren and Donovan Kelso, Caleb and Kari Richter, Sam Day, Abby Richter, Ethan Day, and Myles Day. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Peggy Day; and sisters-in-law Jan (and Pat) O’Neal and Patsy Day, as well as nephews, nieces, and cousins. We were all changed by having Sandy as the heart of the family.
Sandy was born in Norman, Oklahoma to parents Mae and Nick. She was a lifelong Sooner and a proud Oklahoman who loved exploring the state with her children and grandchildren. She graduated from high school in Rudyard, Michigan, and lived in several other states while first married, but came back home to Oklahoma City to raise her family.
Sandy considered being a wife, mother, and grandma the best vocation and she excelled at it. She made multiple volumes of scrapbooks for each grandchild, highlighting the fun with Neena, Granny, or Grandma at Rooster Road. Whatever was an interest for her kids or grandkids became an interest for Sandy. She embraced everything from pro-wrestling to the hip-hop of Hamilton because of her intense love of family.
After raising her children, Sandy worked at Old Surety Life Insurance as a claims processor where she worked for 25 years. In her retirement, she and Wes prioritized blessing young families at Eastside. They hosted a yearly Easter Egg extravaganza at their home, highlighting their chicks, ducks, sheep, and even llamas. Sandy was a Bible class teacher and was privileged to mentor many young mothers.
Services will be at 10 am Wednesday at Eastside Church of Christ in Midwest City. Memorial contributions can be made to In Search of the Lord’s Way, Oklahoma Christian University Center for Global Missions, or Women for Harding.
