There was this new wife who literally scrubbed the floors daily and was up well before the sun to pack lunches for a very particular man.
There was a mother who loved her son with such ferociousness that she wrote him a letter every day of his four tours in Vietnam.
There was this grandmother who fixed each of her grandchildren their favorite dessert when they would come to visit.
There was this woman whose body worked hard and loved hard for 95 years.
Today she is Resting.

Velma was born in Wanette, OK, January 8th, 1918 to William T. Poteet and Mattie Lee (Williams) Poteet. The youngest of 8 children, Velma is preceded in death by her husband, Pleas Smith; her Parents; four Brothers; and two Sisters.
Velma is survived by her Son, Keith Smith and wife Margaret of Cherokee; Granddaughter Alicia Mitchell and husband Brian of Cherokee; Grandsons, Jeremiah Smith of Cherokee, and Zach Smith of OKC; Great-Grandchildren, Anna, Alex, and Evan Ray Mitchell; Sister Helen Vandaveer of Tulsa; Sister-in-law Murlee Poteet of Wichita Falls, TX; as well as four Nephews and two Nieces.
Visitation will be 9:00am to 8:00pm, with family receiving friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Friday, Sep. 20 at Sunny Lane Funeral Home of Del City. Funeral Services will be 2:00pm Saturday, Sep. 21 at Sunny Lane Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cherokee Schools Educational Fund, sent to 203 East 8th Street, Cherokee, OK 73728.
