Frances Daigle Lombas, our matriarch and the heart of our family, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 21, 2026, gently closing her eyes to this earthly life and entering into eternal peace and rest. She was 96.
Born on July 29, 1929, in Morgan City, Frances was the beloved daughter of the late Albert Daigle and the late Lillian Aucoin Daigle and was the third of four children born to that union. Raised in a family steeped in Cajun tradition, Frances was instilled with kindness and compassion toward others, faith, and love of family — values she carried faithfully throughout her life.
As a child, Frances grew up on Four Mile Bayou, where her family lived and worked aboard their boat, and in those days, even attended school by boat. Surrounded by the beauty and wonder of south Louisiana’s bayous, she developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and for all of nature’s creatures.
Strong, independent, and resourceful, Frances truly embodied the meaning of homemaker. Home was where her heart was, and she never had the urge to travel. Her family often shared a laugh when asked whether she had ever flown in an airplane. Frances would simply reply, “Flying is for the birds.”
Caring for her home and property brought her great pride and joy. She was skilled in carpentry, lovingly raised any and every animal fortunate enough to be at her home, and tended gardens overflowing with vegetables that she nurtured with love and generously shared with her beloved family.
Frances also had a creative spirit and enjoyed sewing, crocheting handmade doilies, and collecting porcelain dolls, treasures that reflected her gentle nature and artistic touch.
Above all, Frances’ greatest joy was the time she spent with family. Loved ones fondly reminisce about sitting together on the swing beneath the old oak tree, surrounded by laughter and togetherness. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren, sharing stories of her past and simply enjoying each other’s company. Those moments became some of life’s most treasured memories.
Although we will miss her dearly, we will forever hold her memory close to our hearts and carry her legacy with us always. Rest in peace, dear Frances. We love you.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Gary Lombas, Ginger Lombas Cardinale (Jeff), Chris Lombas, Angela Lombas Mitchell (Earl), and Ben Lombas; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Adney Lombas, Jr.; her son, Dexter Lombas; her granddaughter, Katherine Cardinale; and her siblings, Louise Daigle Rock, Wanzie Daigle Hebert, and Etienne Daigle.
