Tuesday, February 1, 2022….in the early morning hours as the sun was to rise on another day, Jose’ Ruben Silva, III closed his eyes to his earthly life and entered into his eternal glory. At the time of his passing, he was 67.
Jose’ was born December 4, 1954 in Whitney, Texas and was one of five children born to the union of the late Jose’ Ruben Silva and the late Ruth Estefana Barrera Silva. Jose’ was raised in Brownsville, Texas but moved to Louisiana in 1976 where he would begin a career in the Oil and Gas industry, one that would span over four decades. He was a boat captain and worked with various oilfield companies, most recently with Parker Drilling, and prior with Diamond B and James L. Gray.
Outside of his work, Jose’ lived a rich, yet simple life. He filled his days with family and friends. His nieces and nephews shared that their Uncle Joe was happiest when sitting with family while enjoying a home cooked meal (his favorite always included rice and gravy) and listening to some good French or Spanish music. He was also an avid motorcycle rider, having built his own trike to enjoy riding. Juanita and Bobby shared how generous their brother was. If someone was in need and Jose’ could help them, he was there. This simple man, whose heart was filled with love, never wanted for much, just the love of his family, and they in turn adored him. Rest well Jose’ for we will one day be reunited with you again.
Those left to cherish his memory are his fiancée, Cathy Longee; his step-daughters, Toni Longee and Crystal Broussard; four step grandchildren, Aliska Longee, Logan Broussard, Colin Broussard and Kas Daly; his sisters and brothers, San Juanita Silva, Bobby Silva (Mary), Rosario Silva and Mario Silva (Juanita); and a host of nieces and nephews and God children that Jose’ looked upon as his own children and loved them dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose’ Ruben Silva and Ruth Estefana Barrera Silva; and his nephews, Timmy Hebert and Juan Cavazos.
