It is with great sorrow and deep love that the Trahan family announces the passing of our matriarch and heart of the family, Lucy Lopez “Gram” Trahan. Lucy passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the age of 81.
Lucy was born on September 14, 1944, in rural Vermilion Parish to the late Albert Lopez and Nolia Mayard Lopez and was raised on the family farm. Raised in a family deeply rooted in Cajun heritage, she carried those traditions and values with her throughout her life. She attended school in Delcambre and graduated with the Class of 1962, remaining close to her classmates over the years. After graduation, Lucy attended beauty school and worked as a beautician for a time. Though she enjoyed cutting and styling hair, she soon embraced what she considered her greatest calling — that of wife, mother, and caretaker of her family.
Lucy gave her heart and soul to her husband and children. She faithfully worked alongside her husband, Sanford, in operating Glenn’s Floor Center for many years, all while lovingly maintaining her home and raising their children. She was a woman of quiet strength and fierce independence, never one to ask for help with what needed to be done. Lucy tended her flowers with care, cut her own grass, and gathered and burned leaves and sticks to keep her yard meticulously groomed. These moments outdoors brought her peace and allowed her to enjoy the beauty of nature.
Family memories are filled with trips to the camp on Bayou Chene where getting to the camp was the most difficult part for Lucy, as she did not like water. But once her feet were firmly on the ground, she was ready to enjoy every moment with her family. As much as she cherished those gatherings, she was happiest in the comfort of her home on the family property, surrounded by those she loved most.
Affectionately known as “Gram,” Lucy’s home was a place of warmth, laughter, and unforgettable meals. Her grandchildren often said, “Everything tastes better at Grams house,” a testament not only to her cooking but to the love she poured into every dish and every visit. The memories made around her table will be treasured for generations.
Though we will miss her dearly, we hold her memory close to our hearts and will continue to honor her legacy through the love she instilled in us. We rejoice in the promise that one day we will be reunited with her in Heaven. Until that day, may your soul, Lucy, and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Travis Paul Trahan (Tonya), Yvette Marie Trahan (Francis), Jessica Eve Trahan, and Amanda Trahan Robicheaux (Tommy); her grandchildren, Rilee Trahan (Tyler), Tori Menard, Lauren Cart (Aaron), and Maria Robicheaux (Chris); her great-grandchildren, Briley Cart, Weston Cart, and Adler Trahan; her sister, Yvonne Hebert (Luther); and her precious little yorkie, Cooper, who was faithfully at her side.
Lucy is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Sanford Paul “Black” Trahan; her parents, Albert and Nolia Lopez; and her siblings, Zula Frederick, Rosa Toups, Maxie Lopez, Felix Lopez, and Johnny Lopez.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Lucy’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, with Fr. Buddy Breaux serving as celebrant. Following the Mass, Lucy will be laid to rest in the church mausoleum. A gathering of family and friends will take place at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass, with the Rosary being prayed at 10:00 a.m.
Serving as pallbearers are her son Travis Trahan, her son in law Tommy Robicheaux, her grandson in law Tyler Trahan, and her nephews Blaine Lopez, Keith Lopez, Wayne Toups, Carol Lopez, and Clint Hebert. Honorary pallbearers are her nephews Don Frederick and Mickeye Hebert.
