Shirley Hebert Derise, age 90, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 2, 2025. Born on March 30, 1935, in Vermilion Parish to the late Adam and Nita Mitchell Hebert. She lived a life filled with faith, family, and kindness — a beautiful example of a true matriarch.
Shirley was a lifelong member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Delcambre and an active member of St. Ann’s Altar Society, where her faith and service touched many. She was a woman whose warmth and joy shone brightly; she never complained, never frowned, and greeted every day with a gentle smile.
An outstanding cook, Shirley shared her talents and love for over 20 years working for the Iberia Parish School Board in the cafeteria. Generations of children will fondly remember not only her delicious meals but also the kindness and care she showed to everyone who passed through her line.
After her retirement, Shirley cherished her afternoon coffee and visits with her dear friends, continuing to spread love wherever she went. Her greatest joy, however, came from her family — especially her grandchildren, whom she supported wholeheartedly, rarely missing a single event or milestone.
Shirley will be remembered as a woman of grace, strength, and compassion — a pillar of her family and community. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
Those left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Elizabeth Derise; William “Bill” Derise (Jill); Adam “AJ” Derise (Darby); Timothy “Timmy” Derise and Karl Derise (Christy); ten grandchildren, Markell Ayo (Jonathan); Boyer Derise (Katie); Charli Soileau (Ryan); Jackson Derise; Lauren Derise; Lexi Derise; Claire Hugonin (Jonathon); Matthew Derise (Tara); Tucker Derise and Mia Kate Derise; seven great grandchildren, Chloe Ayo, Caroline Ayo, Faith Broussard, Louis Derise, Lisette Derise, Mazie Derouen and Eevie Derouen and two great great grandchildren, Remi Sierra and Rosie Sierra.
Along with her parents she is preceded in death by one grandson, Booth Broussard; one sister, Joyce H. Reeser and one brother, Raywood Hebert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Delcambre. Fr. Buddy Breaux will officiate. Boyer Derise and Lexi Derise will be the readers for the mass. She will be laid to rest following the mass at the Church Mausoleum.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church on Thursday beginning at 12:00 pm until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed at 1:00 pm.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tucker Derise, Matthew Derise, Jackson Derise, Boyer Derise, Jonathan Hugonin and Jon Ayo.
