Louis was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY to Louis Reichert, Sr. and Anna Martens, who ran a popular bakery in downtown Brooklyn, near the Brooklyn Navy Shipyard. Louis and his sister, Eleanor, woke up very early each morning to help around the bakery which was located below their modest apartment - where it seems that it was always “time to make the donuts.”
After graduating high school, Louis joined the Navy, where he served as a Yeoman through the waning days and aftermath of WWII. He often expressed thanks for the GI Bill, which permitted him to attend college after an honorable discharge from the Navy . He attended the City University of New York where he attained a PhD. in Clinical Psychology.
He met his future wife, Sherry, a dance instructor, when he gathered enough courage to learn how to dance. He and his wife lived in Long Island and later Florida, where they spent the remaining 40 years of their married life together, raising their two children, Todd and Robyn.
Dr. Reichert specialized in the clinical care of children, adolescents, and adults. He also worked in facilities for troubled youth and those with significant mental health diagnoses.
Louis made friends easily, and his laid-back charismatic nature endeared him to others. He was often compared to Hollywood actors due to his charm and good looks. He also had a deep love for animals, and always kept a home filled with multiple pets - most of whom were rescued animals.
Louis is survived by his two children, Todd and Robyn, and by his sister, Eleanor Reichert, 99, of Raleigh, NC. He is preceded in death by his wife Sherry.
