Phillis was born in the Bronx in 1930 and was passionate about art, education, and Zionism. She studied at Parson’s School of Design, kept a beautiful home, and painted still lifes that she shared with friends and family.
Phillis enjoyed a loving marriage of 67 years with her husband, Hal Levine, until he passed in 2018 at age 96. She dedicated her life to raising her children, Larry and Hildy, in Rhode Island and Philadelphia, and kept a close relationship with them throughout her life.
After several years as East Coast snowbirds, Phillis and Hal finally settled in Boynton Beach, Florida. They fostered great friendships in Hunter’s Run and thoroughly enjoyed their time in the community.
Despite her difficulty with new technologies- Phillis called Alexa ‘she who must not be named’ in fear of accidentally waking her- she really loved the convenience of video calls and looked forward to connecting with her family in every way possible.
Grandma left us the morning after the commemoration ceremony for her eldest grandchild, Yudi Dukes, who had passed exactly a year prior following a long battle with Covid-19. She is survived and already dearly missed by her son Larry, daughter Hildy (Hinda Dukes), 8 grandchildren, 6 grandchildren-in-law, and 15 great-grandchildren.
The family will be holding a small ceremony in the Star of David Funeral Chapel on January 13th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a JNF donation toward planting a tree in Israel.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.riversidestanetsky.com for the Levine family.
