Sam was a man of quiet strength and boundless warmth, a devoted husband, dependable father, proud grandfather, hard worker, and gentle soul who had a special place in his heart for every living creature he encountered.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Sam had a difficult young life and spent most of his childhood in a series of foster homes. Through determination, intelligence and extraordinary drive he put himself through college and later law school, graduating first in his class from Brooklyn Law School. He went on to build a distinguished career as a tax attorney, ultimately serving as the Head of the Tax Department and Vice President at Ciba-Geigy (Novartis).
Throughout a career spanning more than thirty years, Sam inspired colleagues, friends and family with his work ethic, integrity and sharp sense of humor. He had the rare ability to laugh at himself while making those around him feel at ease.
Sam Gordon leaves behind a family forever shaped by his kindness, his values, and his love. He is survived by the love of his life, Fran (Francine), whom he adored throughout their
nearly 60 years of marriage. He is survived by his three children and their families: his daughter Amy Gordon Risz and her husband Yann Risz, and their sons Thibaud and Andre; his daughter Dana and her husband Jordan Rosenberg, and their children Kaelyn, Miles, Xander, and Cameron; and his son Edward Gordon and his wife Erica Livingston, and their daughters Tabitha and Sadie. He is also survived by his brother Paul Gordon and his grieving pups Ben and Lisa.
Sam’s life was defined by humility and unwavering values. He worked hard not for recognition, but because it was simply who he was. He loved his family fiercely and unconditionally, and that love was returned in equal measure.
He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
