Suzanne was born in Chelsea, MA to Joseph and Lillian McCrensky (Eiken). The oldest of four girls, Suzanne and her sisters Lois, Bernice and Rona grew up on Woods Avenue in Somerville, MA and attended Somerville High School. Suzanne stood out as the tall, fashionable and loving older sister. She was very outgoing with a big personality and her charismatic nature would serve her well throughout her life.
After graduating high school, Suzanne proudly served the City of Boston, working in the Treasury Department under the Mayor Kevin H. White. Suzanne loved to recount the time her father visited her at work to take her out to lunch. Amazed that Suzanne had landed a job with the Treasury, he quipped “Don’t they know you can’t count?” Politics and public service was a natural fit for Suzanne, and she would make life-long friends and connections during her time at City Hall.
Suzanne would marry the late James “Jim” Johnson and move to Sarasota, Florida in 1978, where after working for Sarasota County for 5 years, she started a new career in retail. Suzanne lived in Sarasota until 1992 when she moved to Boynton Beach to care for her mother. She later moved to Delray Beach where she worked in and managed upscale department stores and luxury boutiques in Boca Raton such as Barney’s New York, Louis Vuitton, and Ermenegildo Zegna. Suzanne was extremely proud of her accomplishments throughout her career. After retiring, Suzanne loved to share stories about the people she met and the places she went while working for Louis Vuitton.
In Delray Beach Suzanne made a home for herself in Palm Greens at Villa del Ray where she spent over 30 years. She enjoyed decorating, making home improvements and she loved having family and guests visit her – especially her sister Lois and her husband Michael, who visited her every winter.
Suzanne was a Bostonian through and through, never losing her thick accent and driving her “cah” like a Bostonian, even after living in Florida for 47 years. Never a fan of the Florida heat and sunshine, Suzanne’s favorite vacation was traveling back north to New England to visit family, go shopping, eat lobsters and clams and attend Boston sporting events. From a young age Suzanne was a huge Boston sports fan and was jokingly called “Mrs. (Tom) Brady” by some of her clients.
Later in life Suzanne spent many wonderful years with her partner and companion Hon. Thomas Facelle. Suzanne and “The Judge” as she lovingly referred to him, for years spent every moment together and traveled the world, making many trips to Europe, New England, New York, the Jersey Shore and California. Suzanne loved her time with Tom, whether they were traveling the globe or watching the games together at home.
Suzanne was outgoing, charismatic and joyful. She loved to have fun and to make people laugh. She would talk to anyone and was quick with a joke or a wisecrack. Suzanne was extremely generous and was always thinking about the next birthday or holiday gift for her loved ones. Suzanne cherished her family and friends. She would always say “In the end, all you have is family.”
Suzanne was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. She is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Lillian McCrensky (Eiken), her husband James Johnson and her nephew Timothy Meagher. She is survived by her sisters and their spouses, Lois and Michael Meagher, Bernice and Jay Gurry, Rona and Brad Gustavsen, her niece Lauren Harpham (Gurry) and her family and her nephews Michael Meagher, Jr., Andrew Gurry and Matthew Gurry and their families.
A private memorial service will be held this summer in New England.
