

Dot was born into this world Saturday, January 12, 1929 in Navasota, Texas by Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence White. From the time she was born she was faithful in her religion and attended church her whole life. After high school she went on to college at Howard Payne University and then on to Southwestern Baptist Seminary where she graduated in 1953 with her Masters in Religious Education. She enjoyed school so much that she went on learning at the University of Texas, Southern Methodist University, North Texas and finally North Eastern University in Oklahoma. After college she taught at Buckner School in Dallas and then went on to teach abroad in Ecuador and came back to Dallas Independent School District.
She then met the love of her life, Charlie Shaw, they married on June 8, 1968 at Navasota, Texas and then she continued her teaching career in Cedar Hills at Gray Elementary School for 13 more years then went to Tulsa, Oklahoma to an elementary school for 6 years then returned to Texas in 1990 where she retired, after 36 years of teaching, with her husband in Denison. Dot was an intelligent woman with lots of interests; she wrote poetry, painted with watercolors, loved the arts, was a worldly traveler with her husband and had a huge love for cats.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Lawrence White, Melvin White and Leroy White.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Calvin “Charlie” Shaw of Denison; two sons, Del Shaw of Euless, Gary Shaw and wife Ann of Olathe, Kansas; sister Mildred McMillin and husband Carl; three grandchildren, Dara Rookard, Steve Rookard, Alisa Anders & husband Andy; 3 great-grandchildren, Tommy Rookard, Paul Rookard, Sarah Rookard; three nieces, Barbara Neff, Susie Fowler, Kathy McMillin; two nephews Tommy Cheek and Glenn White.
Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Monday, June 16, 2014 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Lawson, Pastor, First Baptist Church Sherman, officiating. Private family burial will be at a later time at Fairview Memorial Cemetery in Denison, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Meals on Wheels.
