Capt. Gordon Stewart Taylor, Jr. (Retired)

The family will be at Bratcher Funeral Home for visitation from 6:00-7:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 9. 2011.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Park Avenue Church of Christ, 3000 S. Park Avenue, Denison, TX 75020 with Basil McClure officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, 1501 N. State Hwy. 91, Denison, TX 75020.

Full military graveside honors will be performed by Sheppard Air Force Base, of Wichita Falls, Texas

Pallbearers will be Keith Marshall, Tommy Pickrel, Billy Smith, Randy Truxal, Luke Truxal and Rick Fawcett.

Capt. Taylor was born March 8, 1922 in Brownwood, Texas, the son of Gordon Stewart Taylor, Sr. & Ruth Mims Taylor. He married Ellen M. Ball in Sherman, Texas on January 25, 1946.

He was a member of Park Avenue Church of Christ; was a college cheerleader at Howard Paine College in Brownwood; retired from the Air Force as a Captain after 22 plus years; was a pilot; was a P.O.W. from January 25, 1944 – May 13, 1945; worked at Long Real Estate; was a football referee; loved to fish and hunt; loved to golf with the Park Avenue Church members.

He is survived by wife Ellen Margaret “Sally” Taylor of Denison; son Ron Taylor & wife Mary of Denison; daughter Pam Long & husband Larry of Denison; grandchildren Craig Long, Scott Long, Suellen Long, Ronda Morrison, Amy Taylor, Allen Taylor; great-grandchildren Jonah, Logan & Abbey Long.
