On Thursday August 6, 2015, Lana “Momma Sue” McDaniel made it to heaven early in the morning in time for breakfast with her heavenly family. Lana was born on September 29, 1942 at 7:45 pm to Robert and Royce Salyer at Long-Sneed Hospital in Denison, TX.
Mom, wife, grandmother, friend and caretaker, Lana was a star to us all. A native of Denison, TX, Lana grew up all across the southwest as her dad worked construction before returning to Denison, TX in 1959. Lana married her high school sweetheart William Wylie McDaniel on September 11, 1959. They met while living in Wills Point, TX. It wasn’t long before Robert, Robin, Russell, and Regina were on the scene. For years they lived in Terrell Texas and later moved to Lubbock Texas in 1971. Lana returned to Denison two years after her husband’s death in 1982. She was Room Mom, Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Sunday School Teacher, an all-around Super mom raising her kids as well as several “adopted” kids. She was very supportive of her children and proud of their accomplishments. She loved to read and needlepoint baby blankets, and Christmas stockings for all of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.
In August of 2010 Lana was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought for years and was a positive inspiration to the end. Cancer finally took her home but we will always cherish our memories and love for the lady we called Mom.
We would like to thank Home Hospice of Grayson County for all of their support and services that were provided to our family during these past seven months. The encouragement and love is well appreciated. Special thanks to Nurse Betty Whitford, and Aides Sandy Hammon, Faye Rice and Brittany Rushing as our primary caregivers, but also a special thanks to the many other numerous aides that filled in or covered the weekends with us.
Lana is preceded in death by her husband William Wylie McDaniel, parents Robert and Royce Salyer of Denison and her still-born sister, Bobbie Gail Salyer.
Lana is survived by her Son Robert McDaniel and wife Melody of Kingwood TX, daughter Robin Newton of Denison TX, Son Russell McDaniel and wife Kim of Edgewood TX, and daughter Regina Pruitt and husband Les Pruitt of Denison, TX.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Jason Pruitt and wife Kristin of Sherman, TX, Chelsea Pruitt and wife Chelsey Smith of Denison, TX, Lauren McDaniel of Beaumont, TX, and Terry McDaniel and wife Kaci of Plano, TX, Joshua and Chandler Newton of Denison, TX, Patrick McDaniel and Kylie McDaniel of Kingwood, TX; great-grandchildren Zackary and Braylon McDaniel, Jaden Pruitt and one more on the way.
We all have been blessed with loving memories of her and we will cherish every one of them, even in her time of pain and suffering she still made you feel special and loved.
Services will be held on Monday, August 10, 2015 at 10:00 am at Bratcher Funeral Home in Denison, Texas with Russell McDaniel officiating. Immediately following the service there will be a reception to honor our mom and our hope is to have you join us in the celebration of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County at 505 W. Center Street in Sherman, TX 75090.
