Arthur Stencel, age 91, of Parker, Colorado, died peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. Art was born on March 6, 1929 in Greeley, Colorado to Henry and Mary Stencel. He was a small town boy raised in a tight knit family and farming community. He married his sweetheart, Eldina, in 1952. They continued farming until Art’s entrepreneurial desires carried them away to Colorado Springs and the Denver suburbs to pursue numerous business opportunities. He ultimately owned Dickerson’s Liquors (“The Place to Go When Your Spirits are Low”) in Aurora. He loved running the business and talking to folks all day and night. He sold the business in 1990, retired his Hush Puppies shoes and re-directed his energy to travel and spending more time with his family and community.
Art is predeceased by his wife and younger sister, Shirley Askew. Art has two daughters, Debra Stencel and her husband Patrick Phillips in Washington DC and Peggy Alway and her husband Curt Alway in Parker, CO and four grandchildren: Henry and Grace Phillips, both in New York and Ben and Molly Alway, both in Colorado. He and Deanie were amazing parents, always making the good things happen. However, they were extraordinary grandparents, going on fun road trips and always there with lots of patience and love. Art had the gift of gab and the most optimistic outlook on life: loving the family gatherings and always reaching out to friends and family. He will be dearly missed.
A memorial gathering will be planned for the summer. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Children’s Hospital in Aurora at: https://secure.childrenscoloradofoundation.org/site/Donation2;jsessionid=00000000.app261a?idb=853744779&df_id=4267&mfc_pref=T&4267.donation=form1&NONCE_TOKEN=2D6B3D84B44848DB3346E632EF3D0FFF&utm_medium=make_a_financial_donation
