Catherine “Kay” Blomquist (Nosich) passed away peacefully the early evening of November 7, 2015. Kay was born in 1923 to Stephania “Stella” Nosich (Mazanski) and Mike Nosich in the small coal mining community of Winton, Wyoming.
Being a loving wife, caring mother and supportive friend, Kay dedicated her life to her family, providing and leading with a kind and loving heart. In her youth, Kay’s father had been severely injured in a coal mining accident that left him with limited use of his legs. Thus, prompting the family to relocate to Westminster in 1933 to find work during the era of the great depression. It was there Kay graduated from Union High School on May 16, 1941. Soon thereafter she met her husband-to-be Clifford “Carl” Blomquist and they began their courtship during his four-year Army service in WWII. Following Carl’s return in November 1945, they married on February 24, 1946 and Kay began her career as a homemaker, wife and mother.
Kay enjoyed her home and garden, visiting with friends and neighbors, reading, playing bingo, television game shows, embroidery, cross-stitching and working puzzles of all types. She also looked forward to the weekly favorite restaurant outings with her son. She loved family gatherings and celebrations. Whatever the occasion, Kay would make great effort to be in attendance. Kay’s absence will be noticed and our memories of her laughter kept alive each time a guest list is written.
Catherine is survived by her loving son Don, two sisters, Martha Novntoft of Denver and Valeria “Val” Wright of Arvada.
Catherine has been preceded in death by both parents, her husband Carl, brothers John and Tom, along with sisters Mary Knezovich and Matilda “Tilley” Clark.
Visitation and a celebration of Kay’s life will be held at Olinger Moore Howard Chapel, 4345 W. 46th Avenue, Denver, CO 80212, (303) 433-6425 on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
