It was my very great pleasure to know Dean and all of you. Dean was my life long friend and words cannot express my sorrow at missing his final moment. It is my hope that I will have an opportunity to visit all of you again, God bless all of you and know the man you called Father and husband, was and always will be one of the greatest people I have ever known.

Yesterday's service was beautiful, from the color guards to Christian's poignant eulogy. I loved the way he honored you by saying how much his dad loved you and how happy you made him.

Arlene and Family - I always think of Dean with that sweet smile on his face.  The thing that will always stand out most to me is how every single time I was around the two of you, I was struck by how much you two truly adored one another. The way you looked at him and he at you was touching.  You were blessed to have a true and enduring love and there's no doubt he battled as hard as he did to spend as much time with you as possible.  Always remember he will be waiting to grab your hand once again so you can have eternity together.

We are all blessed to have such wonderful memories of Dean, aka Grandpa! The cabin, Santa's workshop, and of course stealing Hannah's bed! He will live on through our memories and stories. Rest in peace grandpa.

Dearest Arlene, since joining the family several years ago, we had come to love and admire Dean greatly.  We so enjoyed his gentle spirit and incredible sense of humor.   The sharing of Marine Corp memories, both happy and poignant,  will remain as some of our most treasured moments.  Although ill and in pain, Dean never complained or exhibited self pity.  You and the kids are in our prayers that you will find peace and joy in having known and loved such a fine man.  I know we feel honored to have been able to call him our friend and "other papa" to our granddaughters.

My name is Jim Ochs and I first met Dean Wood while attending 8th grade math class at Gove Junior High School in Denver, Colorado, I believe the year was1958. I had other classes with him and eventually, we became friends, we did like some of the same girls, at the time girls were becoming very important to a couple of East Denver poor kids. As time moved along, we both ended up attending ended up attending East High School located at E. Colfax and Elizabeth Streets and we were both enrolled in the Reserved Officer's Training Corps (ROTC) program which I left during my Junior year. Neither of our families had a great deal of money, Dean had a job working at the Walgreen's drug store on 6th Avenue and Milwaukee St. and I took a job at East High School working as a sweeper boy. Dean left after graduating in 1964, he didn't really say where he was going back then, but I would find out later that he had joined the U.S. Marine Corps during the summer of 1964 and gone to fight in South Vietnam, he had enlisted for four years. We had lost touch by then but later I would contact him by telephone to ask what Vietnam was like, since I had also enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and had received my own orders for Vietnam. The Vietnam War was still a fairly new situation for everyone then and the times were confusing enough. There was a lot of angst in trying to figure out what to do. Dean advised me to do what I thought was right and when I got over there, he said to listen to my squad leader, keep my butt down and just stay alive. Dean had done what every good leader does, he had told me something and tried to assuage any fears I may have had, I still was a little uncertain about what my chances were, but since I knew him, I believed him and if he had survived a combat experience in Vietnam, so could I. I received an Honorable discharge from the Armed Forces of the United States after fulfilling my six year commitment to the U.S. Army in 1972, I spent 2 years 11 months and 10 days on active duty, I visited a tour of duty in South Vietnam and 16 months in West Germany and was promoted to Sergeant E-5 in Germany. Dean Wood lived his life by example and that is how he taught all others, I had learned to follow his example and be as good as I could be in everything I did, Dean joined the Denver Police Department and I joined the U.S Secret Service, he was my best friend and I will greatly miss him.

Dean was a champion and a hero:, sensitive, caring, giving, and to top it off funny.
Dean and Arlene were quite a team always there for others especially his mom Imogene, and his brother Gene .  He leaves with us his goodness and love and wonderful memories.. I offer prayers of peace in the midst of sorrow for Dean's family, and especially Arlene.   With sympathy, Jan Wilkowki
