Dear Ortiz Family,

My deepest sympathy, my heart is aching for you right now.  I have only the fondest memories of Devan in the halls and classrooms at our school.  I could always count on him to greet me in the hallway with a hand wave and a smile.  He was so loving and friendly with everyone. Devan is so special.

There are never words to express the true depths of sorrow that comes from the loss of a child. You have given Devan the best family anyone could have asked for. I know your loss will benefit so many more as you have a resolve to help others avoid the same tragedy that ALD has shown your family. You have the power to make Devans life worth so much more, and hopefully bring a little peace to your family in return.

Ashley and Alex... There are so many of us who cannot be there in presence but that are there in spirit. Ashley... You are like a sister to me and I hope you know that there is so much love surrounding you and your family. Prayers that you all find comfort.

Loving someone is scary because you know that their time in your life is not permanent, and that someday you will have to give them back to God. You were taken too soon, but we all know that you will still be around to watch your family and friends. And someday they will be reunited with you in Heaven. Thank you for sharing Devans story. I hope and pray a cure can be found to nip this before early stages begin. I never got to personally meet Devan but his pictures told so much of a story. He was so courageous and brave and truly fought until the end. It's heartbreaking that his journey here is physically over but now his next journey has just begun and he's free of pain and hospitals. Think of the celebration now that he is Home!!!! God bless and prayers continued. So very sorry for the loss, he'll always have a place in so many hearts.

A limb has fallen from the family tree.
I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me.
