Donald M. Nusbaum, a lifelong outdoorsman, Army Veteran and long-time resident of Aurora, Colorado passed away peacefully on Tuesday October 22, 2024. Born on January 5, 1930, in Hugo, Colorado, he was the son of the late Albert and Ann (Schutte) Nusbaum. Don graduated from Hugo high School and began his career working for Union Pacific Railroad as an equipment operator before proudly serving his country in the US Army from 1951 to 1953.
After his service, Don embarked on a dedicated 35 year career as a postal carrier with the US Post Office, where he happily delivered mail until his retirement. His connection with the community extended beyond his work. Don was an active member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Aurora and a devoted volunteer at Mother Cabrini Shrine in Golden, CO where he spent many fulfilling hours assisting with grounds maintenance.
Don's love for the outdoors defined him. He found great joy in big game hunting, fishing, camping and hiking the Colorado mountains. An avid angler, he was a proud member of the Aurora Anglers, as well as a member of the local Elks Lodge.
In 1993, Don married his second wife, Charlotte J. (Lachman) Nusbaum, on May 20. Their marriage was one of love, shared adventures and their equal love of the game of golf. Don's presence will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
Surviving are his children, Roger Nusbaum, Laura Baker, Paula (Jim Burke), Pamela (Dallas Kaufmann), Don (Donna) Lachman, David Lachman, William Tedesko, grandson's Eric, Shawn, Nicholas, Connor (Brianne), Collin, Ben, Bill, granddaughters Rachel and Gina (Jason) and three great grandchildren.
