A retiree of the Colorado Highway Department, Dorothy began working at the age of 16 for Western Union during WWII. She held several jobs over her career, including with JHB International.
Dorothy loved games, puzzles, and competitions. She was a trivia pro. She was an avid reader with science fiction and fantasy being her favorite genres. She was fascinated by outer space and the ocean.
What she will be remembered for best is her caregiving. She rescued many animals over her life and raised many children. In her later years, most people called her Mom or Grammy. She was the best Grammy.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Puryear; her brother, Donald Stallins; and her mother and father, Lela Lee Smith and Omar Stallins.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Greg and David; her niece, Sondra; her great-niece, Lindsey; her grandchildren Brooklynne, Bryce, and Adrian (Sherif); and her great-grandson, Cairo.
