Dylan Skye Goedeker was born on August 19th 2006 on a beautiful sunny day at Rose hospital weighing in at 8lbs. 5.7 ounces and 20 inches long. Dylan was welcomed into the world by his loving parents and the most wonderful big brother Hayden, who was ready to play with him and teach him things from the moment he came home. From that day forward, the adventures of the Goedeker family began and he bore the nickname “Sunshine”. His favorite color has always been yellow just like the sun and the stuffed animal that never left his side, which was a little yellow Big Bird.
Dylan was a sweet baby who never could get enough snuggling, and this continued until his last moments. Dylan was an adventurous toddler who found trouble at every turn. From playing in the fish tank, to making messes everywhere and drawing artwork on whatever surface he could find. However, Dylan had a smile that no one could resist and the words to charm his way out of trouble every time. As he grew so did his love for his brother. Dylan would follow Hayden’s every moves, watch him so closely, and try to do everything he did. The sounds of brothers filled the house daily with giggles, snickers, secrets, fighting and the sound of joy. They were inseparable and the best of friends, even when Dylan would sneak up and surprise tackle Hayden at the most random times.
Dylan lived an adventurous life as his parents never let him slow down, and he kept them moving too. At 2 months old Dylan went on his first train ride, which was followed by his first time trick-or-treating at Yogi’s Campground. We then decided that this would become a family tradition and have done it every year since. Dylan’s years were then filled with sign language classes, classes at the recreation center, play group, trips to different zoos, the Children’s museum, the Aquarium, the park, Elitches, Water World and so much much more. Dylan enjoyed playing fetch with his dog Addie and snuggling with both dogs Addie and Hallie. Dylan loved playing football, but never wanted to play catch, “Just Tackle!” He was a Bronco nut and watched every game, he especially loved going to them with his parents and Grand Fathers. He also loved anything with a motor, especially racecars. He even dreamed of being a NASCAR driver someday, but after watching him drive on the Wii I think they would have kicked him out because all he wanted to do was cause big crashes. He was always so happy to be picked up from school in the Mustang and always requested Dad to “smoke the tires” as we left the pick-up line.
He played flag football where he was the star of his team showing off his incredible athletic ability. He also played on a basketball team and a lacrosse team where both his dad and mom helped coach. He only had one season of lacrosse but quickly became the star of the team for his over aggressiveness and ability to be involved in every play.
Dylan spent years watching his big brother progress through Cub Scouts and was so very proud to finally become a Tiger Cub in his last year. He thought it was extra special that his dad was the Pack’s committee chair and his mom was his Den Leader. He was in a family that did everything together and was inseparable.
He went to Mexico when he was 17 months old and swam in the ocean. At 3 years old his adventures took him to California to explore Disneyland, Sea World, Universal Studio and the ocean. When he was 4 years old he took his first Disney Cruise and sailed the Mexican Riviera taking time to play in the ocean, zipline across the jungle, atv, and even get to hold tarantulas and scorpions. When he was 5 years old he continued exploring and went on his second Disney Cruise around the Carribbean where he sailed on a pirate ship to go snorkeling with sea turtles. He also swam with and fed stingrays.
In the summer, he mostly spent his time camping, fishing, hiking, geocaching and bike riding. His winters were filled with sledding, ice skating and skiing where he often gave his parents heart attacks with his no fear attitude trying to get us to let him ski through the trees or jump jumps and do it all as fast as he could. We never understood his need for speed until now and why everything always had to happen so fast with him. Now we know, he was trying to pack it all in and do a whole lifetime of living in the short six years that he had.
Dylan had the personality that would light up a room and was always charming someone. His eyes sparkled and his smile warmed your heart. However, the outward appearance of a rough and tough boy hid the true lover that he was. From his five minute kissing hands routine he did with Mom each day before school, to the thoughtful things he said at random times like “mommy you look so beautiful”, he was the most snuggly little boy you would ever know. No one ever knew that he proposed to Mom on a regular basis, and then would snuggle up, give that sneaky smile and tell Dad “she’s mine”.
From the moment he was born, he was destined to be a fireman. In his first days, he visited the fire station and was adorned in Dad’s helmet and gear. As he grew, he earned his own set of gear just like his brother. Playing search and rescue with his big brother and Dad, they saved numerous stuffed animals from the brink of danger and our house nearly burned down a million times. Chief Mueller and I used to agonize over someday being Chiefs supervising the engine company of Dylan, Hayden, Riley and Zach and the trouble they would cause and what a great firefighting company it would be. His engine company is here today to honor Dylan. Everyone wondered why he knew how to count in the 40’s and 60’s so early, we knew it was because he knew every fire truck in the area who are all those numbers. He admired everything about firefighting, treasured every moment at the fire station from holidays to drop in visits, and trained every day to do the real thing. However, the funny side of him loved to torture Dad, and every time Dad asked what he would be when he grew up he said he was going to be a cop.
Dylan blessed so many hearts in his six years. He stole them everywhere and there are so many girls that he swooned. It was hard not to love Dylan, he had such a big heart and such compassion for everyone. He will forever be missed, but the adventures will continue. Dylan is our guardian angel and will forever guide us, play with us, warm us with his smile and cuddle our hearts. Our sunshine will forever shine on us as he rises every morning to warm the world, just as he did when he was here with us. We will still sing your song every night, and know that you come back to us every morning.
We love you “little dude” and you will forever be the heart and soul of our family. We cannot wait until we meet again as a family in heaven and have many more adventures as the four Crazy G’s.
With all our love,
Mom, Dad, and your big brother Hayden
