Most commonly known as Jo Ann, she was known and loved by many. She rightly earned the name "Meemaw" by her 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Once someone was welcomed into the family, they were in to stay. E. Jo Ann Aughenbaugh, 82, of Littleton, Colorado, went to her mansion in the sky in the loving hands of her Lord Jesus Christ in Parker, Colorado on February 18, 2026.
She was born in Alamosa, Colorado in 1943 to Simon and Edith Verschoor, and was the oldest sister of Hilda (Verschoor) Davis, with whom she is in Heaven, and brother Lane Verschoor of Texas. She was raised in the San Luis Valley with her sister, cousins and many life-long friends.
After graduating from Alamosa high school, she married Donald Ben Aughenbaugh and moved to Littleton, Colorado, where she raised her 4 children. She created a home full of loving energy, infiltrating the walls of her home with her joyful spirit and witty personality. She was married to the love of her life, Donald, for 64 years.
She regularly attended church, serving the Lord through music. Taking her place at the organ for her Columbine Baptist Church family, she shared her musical character each week. She served her community as a public service employee, known as the "Lunch Lady", feeding many children at Stony Creek, Colorow Elementary and Columbine Sr. High School.
Jo Ann will always be known for her loving connection, empathetic heart and advocacy for the "under-dog". We couldn't have asked for a better woman to teach us faith, loyalty, connection and compassion for others. Words cannot say how much she will be greatly missed, and we know she is working hard now to make sure the mansion is ready for Dad when he joins her with Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Simon "Sy" and Edith "Edie", sister Hilda (Verschoor) Davis and her son Daniel L. Aughenbaugh. She is survived by husband Donald B. Aughenbaugh, daughters Denice L. (Aughenbaugh) Ulmer, Debra L. Aughenbaugh and DeAnna L. (Aughenbaugh) Yee, daughters-in-law Catherine E. Aughenbaugh and April Brower, 9 "Grands" and 14 "Greats".
Following a private family graveside service, a public Celebration of Life will be on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 3 p.m. at Columbine Baptist Church at 5660 W. Coal Mine Ave. Littleton, Colorado 80128.
