Eugene was born on September 17, 1936 in Archbold, Ohio, the son of Lester and Letha (Short) Richer.
After graduating from Pettisville High School, Eugene entered voluntary service where he met his wife June. After they were married Eugene and June moved to La Jara, Colorado where they raised their 5 children and both worked at Conejos County Hospital. Eugene also served with the La Jara volunteer fire department.
After leaving La Jara, Eugene and June lived in the Denver area for a time before moving to Mendon, Massachusetts, then back to the Denver area where they would live out the rest of their lives.
Eugene and June enjoyed serving their Lord Jesus in many ways; in their community, in their church, as foster parents, with the Gideons, and in hospitality to the many people that crossed their path.
Eugene is survived by: His siblings Marilyn Schrock, Allen Richer, and Rich Richer. His five children; Jerry (Debbie) Richer, Janell (Dan) Benson, Beth (Sean) Savage, Lynette (Mike) Lundgren, and Vonda (Curt) LaBastie. And by his five grandchildren; Jesse Savage, Michaela Lundgren, and Shay, Aaron, and Anna LaBastie
June preceded Eugene in death in 2019 after 61 years of marriage.
A visitation and funeral service is planned for Monday, October 28th, at Peace Mennonite Community Church, 13601 E. Alameda Ave, Aurora, Colorado.
