March 20, 1926 – July 14, 2025
Florence Lucille Lacefield, lovingly known as “Flossie,” passed away peacefully on July 14, 2025, at the age of 99. She was a resident of Garden Square at Westlake Assisted Living Center in Greeley, Colorado at the time of her passing.
Born on March 20, 1926, in Fort Morgan, Colorado, Flossie was the youngest child of Eva and J.F. Meininger. Her family’s legacy is one of strength, perseverance, and heritage—descendants of German farmers who had once settled in Russia at the invitation of Catherine the Great before immigrating to the United States in search of freedom and opportunity. Her mother, Eva, made the transatlantic journey at just 15 years old, while her father, J.F., eventually settled in Nebraska. The two met and married in Fort Morgan, where they raised their family.
Flossie was the youngest of 11 children—7 boys and 4 girls—in a blended family marked by resilience and hard work. She became the first Meininger girl to learn to drive, a point of pride earned by hauling grain and produce in the family truck. But Flossie had her sights set beyond the farm. After graduating high school, she moved to Denver to live with her beloved sister Hanna, with whom she shared a lifelong bond.
In Denver, she began working at a downtown bank, where fate stepped in. Her boss introduced her to Jim Lacefield, whom had recently returned from serving in World War II. The two fell in love and married on May 5, 1946. They built a loving home together, raising their son, Jim Lacefield, and later becoming a strong and nurturing presence in the lives of their grandchildren and their great-grandchildren.
Flossie devoted her life to her family. A full-time homemaker, she was deeply supportive, thoughtful, and always present. Her caring spirit helped guide not only her son but also played a central role in the upbringing of her grandsons. She was the heart of the family—wise, gentle, and endlessly giving.
She is survived by her son, Jim Lacefield; her grandsons, Sean Lacefield (wife Mary, and their children Isabel and Owen) and Scott Lacefield (wife Ashley, and their children Tegan and Jenny). She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Lacefield, who passed away in 2015.
Flossie will be remembered for her quiet strength, her unwavering love, and her remarkable life that spanned nearly a century. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished and the many lives she touched.
A committal service for Flossie will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM, Staging Area "A" at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave., Denver, CO 80236. A reception will occur immediately following the committal service at Olinger Hampden Mortuary & Cemetery, 8600 East Hampden Ave, Denver, CO 80231.
