Hajar was born on December 24, 1933 in Gilan, Iran. She was born to Hossein Ali Khoshbooy and Halimeh Pourshaaban. She was one of six children. Her unwavering strength came from her mother, who was known as a strong and powerful woman. Hajar spoke with great love regarding her childhood and the time she spent on the family’s farm.
She married Jamshid Mahdjouri and had four children. Jamshid was in the Air Force and the family lived on many Air Force bases and traveled the world.
She was the ultimate caretaker of the family, always ready to care for her husband, her daughters, her beloved son-in-laws, her grandchildren, or friends. She was an extremely self-less and charitable individual.
Hajar and Jamshid raised four extremely strong, independent, and educated women. Hajar instilled the value of education in all of her children and supported each throughout their education and careers. She was instrumental in raising her seven grandchildren as well. She was an extremely talented homemaker and a master seamstress, often making matching outfits for her daughters that were famous throughout the base. She was an incredible cook, talented knitter, and homemaker. Hajar was known by all for her sense of fashion.
Her grandchildren had the following to say about Hajar: She wasn’t just anyone, she was our last shelter. No matter what happened before, no matter what mistakes were made, she was our safe place, where we could truly be ourselves and find relief from everything we were going through, without any judgment. With her famous dishes, warm tea, and her incredibly welcoming personality, she was our hero, our first best friend, our second mom. Her home and her presence felt like having a guardian angel, like having a piece of heaven right in front of us. Now without her, heaven feels so far away.
She is preceded in death by her Husband, Jamshid Mahdjouri (d. 2008). She is survived by her four daughters, Jinous Lari (Hossein Lari), Jaleh Mahdjouri, Dr. Jila Mahdjouri (Dr. Mohammad Ghaffaripour), and Dr. Janet Mahdjouri (Dr. Mohammad Arefian). She is survived by seven grandchildren, Banafsheh Lari, Farzam Ebrahimpour, Farinaz Ebrahimpour, Dr. Ghazaleh Ghaffaripour, Amir Ali Arefian, Amir Hossein Ghaffaripour, and Armita Arefian.
