Martha was born in Keenesburg, CO on November 21, 1927 to Fred and Charlotte Huwa. She was one of twelve children born to Fred and Charlotte and worked on their family farm until graduating Prospect Valley High School in 1945 as Senior Vice President.
Martha lived most of her life in Denver, CO where she worked as a secretary for The Air Reserve Personnel Center doing contract work for the United States Air Force. In her 32 years of service she received many awards and commendations including the Sustained Superior Performance Award, which she received over a dozen times. When not working, Martha spent her time crocheting, traveling to many places including Israel, Germany, and British Colombia, to name a few, and was an avid reader, especially enjoying historical fiction. She was an active member of Calvary Temple in Denver for many years until she moved to Garden Plaza of Aurora in 2018. She also was a member of the choir for many of those years.
While Martha never married nor had any children, she was a beloved Aunt to her many nieces and nephews as well as their children. She was especially close to her younger brother Elvin, “Sonny”, and his wife Elaine, spending holidays, birthdays, and many special events with them and their children and grandchildren. Even after Sonny and Elaine died, Martha continued to be a steady fixture in their daughter Cindy’s family - livening many events with good humor and memories of the days spent on the farm growing up. Cindy and her husband George continued to care for Martha as she aged and were particularly blessed by their time with her as she transitioned to assisted living and eventually hospice.
On Friday, June 6, George and Cindy picked up Aunt Martha for a family dinner with all of their children and grandchildren. Aunt Martha spent the evening playing with the babies, talking about books, and enjoying a meal with everyone all together. The next day, Cindy received a call that she had fallen and was transported to the ED. After she was evaluated and returned home, she understood that the prognosis was not good. At one point, George and Cindy said to her, “You’re getting closer to Heaven Aunt Martha. Will you wait for us there?” to which she responded, “I know. I will march you in!” She died at 11:30 pm that night.
Martha is predeceased by her parents and all eleven of her brothers and sisters and their spouses. She will be loved and remembered by four generations of many nieces and nephews.
