Mary Alice Kimball (née Newcombe; formerly Mary Schmidt), 82, of Englewood, CO passed away peacefully on February 2nd, 2025. Mary was born on October 28th, 1942 in Newark, New Jersey to Mary H. & George A. Newcombe. She leaves behind her children Kathy (Ken) Peterson, Kevin (Annie) Schmidt, Tom (Nancy) Kimball, Ford (Anna) Kimball and Allyson (Chris) Johnson, along with grandchildren Carly (Greg) Gassen, Kevin Peterson, Sebastian Schmidt, David Kimball, Aradia Kimball, Dax and Miles Johnson. She is also survived by her brother George M. Newcombe (Joan). She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Thomas Kimball, Jr.
Mary grew up in Irvington, New Jersey, attending St. Leo’s grammar school, followed by Archbishop Walsh for high school, graduating in 1960. She married Ernest Richard (Dick) Schmidt in 1965. Later that year, they moved to Fullerton, CA and started a family.
Mary and family moved to Colorado in the mid-70s, which would become her long-term home. She married John Kimball in 1993 and got her B.S. in Business Administration, Marketing (cum laude) from Regis University in 1997, where she gave one of the commencement speeches. She went on to have a very successful career in sales, first in the oil & gas and later staffing industries. Sales was her true calling given her infectious personality and enthusiasm for life. A better definition of a 'people person' there never was. Mary would make lifelong friends in a short elevator ride.
A self-professed 'tomboy', Mary was particularly passionate about tennis. Many weekends and evenings were spent on the courts, or watching the pros play on TV. Her love of tennis was only surpassed by her love of dogs - she'd had at least one by her side continuously since the early 80s (they'd even have their own Christmas stockings).
Mary touched the lives of many. To know her was to love her. She was as genuine as they come, beautiful both inside and out and will be so deeply missed.
In Mary's memory, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday April 12th at 10:00am at Arrowhead Golf Course in The Roxborough Room in Littleton, CO where light bites and beverages will be served. We look forward to hearing and telling some of the many funny and happy stories about Mary.
