Michael Joseph Brown

Michael Brown, loving father, beloved grandfather, and excellent friend, tragically passed away at the age of 67 on February 8, 2021 in Denver, Colorado.. Born on June 21, 1953 to Joseph Clifton Brown and Elizabeth Louise (Lukens) Brown in San Bernardino, CA., Michael was the younger brother to Betty Jo and older brother to Jeffery.

In his early years, Michael’s family moved several times to Michigan and Florida before settling in Kettering, Ohio in 1971. It was during his senior year at Spring Valley Academy that Michael met his best, lifelong friend, Gordon Reichard. Michael started college at Andrews University in 1972, and finished his undergraduate at the University of Colorado in 1977.

It was during his law school years that he met his ex-wife, Carol Woodworth, who worked as a nurse with Michael’s father. The two were married in 1980 upon Michael’s graduation from McGeorge School of Law. They settled in Denver, Colorado, where Michael opened his law practice. Their son, Michael William Joseph Brown, was born on June 17, 1985. Though Michael and Carol divorced in 1986 together they worked hard to lovingly co-parent along with the help of Carol’s husband Mark Elliott.

Always a hard worker, Michael held a variety of jobs in his lifetime from an attorney at Porter Adventist Hospital to a tax professional at H&R Block to a delivery driver at Pizza Hut. Michael loved the Rocky Mountains, good music (especially the Grateful Dead), his son, and most of all his four grandchildren. His early adult life was concentrated on mountain biking, camping, and spending as much quality time as possible with his son. His later adult life was devoted to being a loving and active presence for his grandchildren. Michael was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, and his mother, Elizabeth, and his brother, Jeffery.

He is survived by his son, Michael, his daughter-in-law, Katherine, his beloved grandchildren, Isaiah, Lucy, Amelia, and Levi; his sister Betty Jo Brown, sister-in-law Joy and her children, niece Beth Lasley and nephew Zach Brown; his aunts, Martha Luekens and Peggy Leonard, and cousins Jeff Jones, Debbie King, Carla Jones, Robyn Lugg, Kevin Leonard, Kim Leonard, and Kristie King; his former spouse Carol Elliott and her husband Mark Elliott; his best friend Gordon Reichard.
