May 18,1920 - January 18, 2018
Pearl Staude-Miller, a 40 year resident of Arvada, CO, and long time member of King of Glory Lutheran Church passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the age of 97.
Born in Kenedy, Texas on May 18, 1920, Pearl was the third daughter born to Swedish immigrants Malcom and Augusta Rolf, who arrived in the US in 1909. She grew up on a farm in Kenedy, TX where both Swedish and English were spoken. She was very proud of her Swedish heritage.
The family was active in the Elim Lutheran Church, where Pearl, through her membership in the Luther League, met her first husband, Leo Windecker. It didn’t take him long to notice this beautiful young woman with sparking blue eyes and platinum blonde hair.
Pearl and Leo married on July 4, 1942 and had two sons, Bob and Ted, while Leo was finishing his DDS degree. In addition to being a full time mother, Pearl acted as Leo’s dental assistant in his practice in Lake Jackson, TX.
In 1949, Pearl and her sons moved to San Antonio, to be near her family. In 1954, while working at the military base there, she met and married Rudolf Staude, the Assistant Superintendent of the National Cemetery. In 1962 they adopted a daughter, Sheryl, when she was a little girl.
Upon Rudy’s retirement in 1970, the family moved to Arvada and joined King of Glory Lutheran Church. Pearl made friends easily and was an active member of the Dorcas Circle. Pearl and Rudy loved to square dance and travel to visit family. Rudy passed away in 1990.
Pearl met Don Miller at a Widows and Widowers gathering, and they were married at King of Glory Lutheran Church in 1996. They took a trip to Australia on their honeymoon. Their relationship was filled with love and laughter, and numerous fun trips followed. In 2004, Don passed away.
In 2007, Pearl moved into the Meridian Senior Living community, and blossomed in this new setting. Unfortunately, she suffered a stroke in November 2015, necessitating a move to a rehabilitation center. Although she was confined to a wheelchair, she never lost her zest for life, her beautiful smile or her sense of humor.
Left to cherish her memory are sons Bob Windecker (Judy), Ted Windecker (Charlotte), granddaughters Eileen Schurer (Mark) and Catherine Windecker, grandsons Forrest Windecker and Alan Staude, great grandson Jules Schurer, her “adopted” Miller family, Don, Raymond, Susie, Donna, Daniel, Ann, and Tim.
She will be remembered for her loving nature, sense of humor, and resilience.
