During WWII Bob served in the US Navy serving on the gun crew of the SS Waipio, a merchant marine ship where he traveled the West Coast, up to Alaska and across the Pacific. After the war he returned to marry his sweetheart, Elizabeth LaVerna McCord. At that time he became an apprentice carpenter. In his words, “My work as a carpenter and later as a safety supervisor at the Conoco Refinery provided my family with a good living and quality of life…I am extremely grateful for that.”
“I thank the Lord for all these blessings and for birthing me in these United States of America.” Although he and Betty traveled extensively together, when recently asked where his favorite place was, he replied, “Right here, home, Denver, Colorado”. He loved the mountains and was especially fond of fishing on the Gunnison River where he enjoyed many trips with his family.
He leaves a wonderful legacy of love, honor and faithfulness that lives on through his children, grand children and great grandchildren.
