Steven Robert McMurry was born in Phoenix, Arizona on April 6, 1988 and passed away in Denver, Colorado on May 21, 2025. He is lovingly remembered by his life partner, Bianca Peña; his sisters, Jessica and Vanessa; his parents, John and Tamma McMurry; his grandmother, GG Darla; his cousins, Nathan, Chris, and Zak; his auntie and uncle, Debbie and John; and his beloved pup, Echo.
Steve graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor's degree in Communication. While in college he was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. He lived in Arizona, California, Croatia, and Denver, Colorado. He worked various jobs and followed what he was most passionate about including marketing, brand development, hospitality, and DJ mixing.
Stevie is the proud uncle of his two nieces, Scarlett and Ella, and two nephews, Rowe and Grey. He loved chatting and playing with them so much; they chased him around the yard, regularly adventured out to Disney, constructed legos together, and shared a love of Star Wars.
Steven was multi-passionate. Although he had a professional background in computers and marketing, he was an inspired cook and an aspiring DJ. He filled his days with music, food, laughter, and love. Steven was often the one behind the stove, making meals that brought everyone together. He was always eager to try a new cuisine, seek out local restaurants, or push the limits of his spice tolerance. He inherited this love from his father, who ran a catering business, and makes every meal an act of care and creativity.
Steve also had a playful, expressive side that came through in his music. He wrote lyrics and was learning to be a DJ, spending hours experimenting with mixes and playlists.
Although he loved a good soak in the hot tub, he also enjoyed traveling. Some of his favorite places included his parent's cabin, being outdoors, boogie boarding at the beach, touring through Europe, attending so many concerts it's hard to count, and exploring new places with Bianca and Echo.
He was known for breaking into silly antics. He had an off-beat humor and was known to pull pranks with his best friend Jeff.
Steven loved animals and had a profound relationship with his and Bianca's German Shepard, Echo. She was not just a pet to him, but his baby; spoiled, adored, and treated with endless love. The bond they shared was full of gentleness, comfort, and unwavering loyalty.
Steve was affectionately called “Pooh Bear” by his sisters, a nickname that captured his warm heart and gentle nature. He was goofy, sweet, and the kind of person who made everyone around him feel welcome.
Steven was a loyal person who made fast friends with all he knew, including buddies he has kept since high school, fraternity brothers, co-workers, and regulars at the bar he worked at.
His spirit lives in the music he shared, the meals he cooked, the voices he invented, and the unconditional love he gave to both people and animals. Thank you, Steven, for bringing so much light and joy to our lives. We hope you're up there with Grandpa Bob looking down on all of the people who love you. He will always be loved and never forgotten.❤️
