12/28/1925-8/7/2012
Steven was the first born of 4 children to William Tymkovich and Rose (Urban) Tymkovich of Denver. His parents were immigrants who traveled through Ellis Island in the early 1900’s separately with their own families. His mother migrated from Poland and his father as a young teen with his younger brothers and sister from Ukraine after losing their mother on the ship on the way to the US. They found their way across the country by themselves without any parents, to their father who had come to the US first to set up home for his family in Pueblo. Steve’s family is rich in interesting history.
Steve worked as a farmer in his youth toiling on the family’s land with a team of horses and plow. He also worked as a fireman on a steam train. His father opened a slaughter house on their property and Steve worked beside him there, before opening what would become a local landmark: Wm Tymkovich Complete Meat Service, later to be named Tymkovich Meats.
Steve worked at the State of CO Division of Employment for 35 years while also working in the family business. He retired from the State in 1986 to help his son take over the business, working beside him up until 3 months ago.
He married his sweetheart, JoAnn Husted, in 1957, being married at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Denver at 32nd and Irving. They were married for 50 years before he lost his wife in death in 2007. He was the finest provider and example a family could ever have had. His greatest joy in life was derived from spending private time with immediate family and in worship of our creator, sharing the good news of God’s word with others. In his own words” …it’s what I promised I’d do”.
He is preceded in death by his wife JoAnn, his younger brother Edward, and his sister Stella Heinze.
He is survived by his daughter Susan Pelligreen (Frank) and son Tim Tymkovich (Terri), his grandchildren Joshua Pelligreen (Heather), Stacy Podwajski (Jon), Thaddeus Pelligreen (Emily), Brandon Tymkovich, Charisa Reeves (Todd) and Cassandra Tymkovich. He had 3 great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Samantha Podwajski and Sullivan Reeves.
He will be sorely missed as the wise family patriarch. His sense of humor and colorful stories of the past is what set this man apart.
