Sylvia Bernice Velzen, 87, of Centennial Colorado, passed away Thursday December 4, 2014. She was born in Denver, Colorado, on August 28, 1927. Sylvia graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School. She was married to Frank Velzen, on April 26,1948. Sylvia had a career as a mother and wife. She was a committed follower of Christ, and was a mentor, friend, and surrogate mother to many. She was a member of Horizon Community Church, and had a passion for Christian ministry, serving as the first female Deacon at Hillcrest CRC, and the first female elder at Horizon Community Church. She served as a volunteer at the Christian Living Center Clermont Park Campus for 25 years. Sylvia served as a board member of Christian Reformed Church of American World Relief Committee for 6 years.
She is survived by her children, Russell, Kathy, and Mark. Grandchildren, Kendra, Alex, Jenn, and Travis. And her sister, Betty Lotterman. Funeral arrangements will be held at 11 am, December 9, at Horizon Community Church. A private interment will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
