

Wilma Jean Young, 78, of Arvada, CO, passed away on November 5, 2011, in Exempla Lutheran Hospital due to complications resulting from heart surgery. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dean Young in April of 1999.
She is survived by her brother Covert Lee Irvin of Houston, TX, her two children: DeAnn Dickinson of Louisville, CO and Steve Young of Seattle, WA, and four grandchildren: Adam and Anthony Dickinson of Louisville, CO and Amy and Zoe Young of Seattle, WA .
Wilma was born and raised in Lawton, OK, and married Dean there in 1953. They moved to Denver in 1960 where Wilma worked in early child care and also as an Administrative Assistant in the Health Services Department at the University of Denver from which she retired in 1996.
She was a member of the Church of Christ the King Episcopal Church at 6490 Carr St. in Arvada, where her services will be held on Friday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m.
On Thursday evening, a viewing will be held at the Olinger Moore Howard Mortuary at 4345 West 46th St. (46th and Tennyson) from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Wilma loved to garden, decorate her home, play bridge, have lunch and travel with her many friends. Of particular significance to her was her trip to China in March, 2000, with her son Steve to pick up her new granddaughter Zoe.
She had an affinity for pets, especially Dachshunds. She loved the theater, especially musicals and watching hockey games at DU. She was a regular participant and volunteer in activities at Christ the King where she served on the Vestry. She was everybody’s friend.
She was a dedicated steward of the Young family, wonderful mother and took pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
