
Colleen Ann Ringel of Des Plaines, Librarian, Genealogist, Family Historian and Knitter Extraordinaire joined her parents in heaven on, September 4, 2016. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends who cared for her so much. Born March 31, 1952, in Lake Geneva, Wis.; the daughter of James and Gloria (nee Van Dyke) Ringel. Colleen is survived by her siblings; Steven Ringel of Palatine, Kathleen (Chris) Bosch of Melbourne, FL, Kevin (Kathleen) Ringel of Wheaton, Susan Dotson (nee Ringel) of Schaumburg, Brian (Sheryl) Ringel of Wauconda and Jeffrey Ringel of Aurora, and by her nieces and nephews: Samantha and Matthew Bosch, Michael and Kayti Dotson, Lauren (Grant) Greenberg, Scott (Kellie), Michael (Samantha Hopkins), Emily (Christiaan Rodriguez), Colin, Patrick, Andrew, Kelly, Megan and Tyler Ringel and her grandniece Adrianna Rodriguez. Colleen leaves behind two beloved Aunts, Bea Dale of Lake Geneva, WI and Gloria Van Dyke of Dowagiac, MI and her cousins, Mary (Ed) Zweibel of Lake Geneva, WI, Bob (Carolyn Knop) Dale of Lake Geneva, WI, Allison (Peter) Willis, Benton Harbor, MI, Lynne Brennan Van Dyke of Nairobi, Kenya, Laura (Dan) Wall of Downers Grove, Sarah (Rick) Rodriguez of Downers Grove and John Van Dyke of Milwaukie, OR. Colleen graduated from Northern Illinois University after which she went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Library Science from Rosary College. Colleen worked as a Librarian for the past 21 years, the last 16 years at Morton Grove Public Library.
Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2016 at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. (Northwest Hwy./Rt. 14 at Rand Rd.), Des Plaines, IL 60016. Knowing Colleen’s passion for exploring the roots of her heritage, her burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lake Geneva where she will rest with her ancestors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Eastland Historical Society of Chicago.
