Born on June 20, 1945, in Waltham, Massachusetts, James earned a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Wisconsin. He began his career as a landscape architect, where his creativity and care shaped every project. Later, he transitioned into financial planning, continuing his lifelong dedication to guiding and supporting others through life’s challenges.
James also had a lifelong love of golf. He was proud to have won the Elgin City Tournament in 1986, but more than competition, the game reflected many of the things he cherished—beautiful landscapes, the outdoors, and a sense of tranquility.
Those who knew James will remember his quick wit, warm sense of humor, and the joy he found in making others smile. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Known lovingly as “Papa” to his grandchildren, he treasured every moment with family. He was the kind of person you could always count on—steady, humble, and selfless—always ready to lend a hand, never seeking the spotlight, and never complaining no matter the circumstance. His quiet strength, generous heart, and gift for laughter left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
James is survived by his beloved wife, June; his children, Ian (Marjia) Robinson and Amanda (Michael) Burdi; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas, Ava, and Ella. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
The family will hold a private ceremony and memorial to honor James’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations in James’s memory may be made to the Dupage Care Center Foundation (www.dpccfoundation.org).
