From my childhood it was always Aunt Joanne to us kids. My mom had 2 life long best friends and Joanne was one of them.   Sad to hear of the loss of such a gifted, warm and wonderful lady.

I was very saddened to learn of Joanne's passing.  I fondly recall walking to her home for piano lessons as a teenager and being warmly greeted. (She graciously put up with my excuses for why I hadn't practiced enough that week.)  After leaving town for college, marrying, having children, and in the process, moving 11 times (Army), I lost touch with a lot of people. Early in 2002, I was in a medical waiting room and picked up a copy of Good Housekeeping (Nov. 2001) and saw an article about a woman who had a large collection of glass bottles shaped like musical instruments.  It was Joanne!!  I reconnected with her and we have corresponded throughout the years since that time.  I will miss her thoughtful and caring messages.  She was a VERY special person!  My condolences to her family.

Joanne was a second mom for me and my brother Bob.  The Anderson family moved to McVicker Ave right about the same time as the Stucka family, when we were only 3 and 4 years old.  Barb and Gary were our “bestest” friends.  Naturally, Joanne was a huge influence on our musical education.  When we were all at Park View school, in music programs under the direction of Mr. Palm, Joanne organized us into an ad hoc quartet of cello, viola, trumpet, and French horn.  My brother and I also performed Offenbach’s Barcarolle as a trumpet and horn duet.  Joanne explained that the famous piece was from the Romantic Period.  For 9-10 year old boys, this was very uncool!  Little girls did that romantic stuff, not us adventurous boys! But we had to admit, we liked this music.  And we still do! God bless you , Joanne!  You were a huge influence on our lives!

Mrs. Stucka was a wonderful neighbor all these years.  My generation always called the older generation Mr. and Mrs. yet she wanted me to call her Joanne 😀.   Lived on the block so long - she knew my grandmother! I will also miss our email exchanges and her  thoughtful words. She was so kind and also articulate even at her advanced age.  Take care.

I have nothing but happy and wonderful memories of Mrs. Stucka.  She taught me to play the piano and, in doing so, gave me a lifetime full of love for classical music.  I think it is unquestionable that my life was exquisitely and positively blessed because she was part of it.  I mourn the loss of her now as I have others from her generation.  She was simply wonderful!

I played with Joanne Stucka for over twenty years in various chamber groups where we played music of all styles.  She was a wonderful pianist and a great colleague, always generous with her time and kind to the other players in her groups.  She was also one of the kindest people I’ve known.  She will be greatly missed.

Wonderful lady, wonderful pianist, wonderful mother.  So sad for your loss.  We trust she is reunited with Roy and loved ones.

So sorry to learn  about losing Joanne.   She was a lovely lady and I enjoyed knowing her .    I also enjoyed her piano playing talent and the creative way that she designed a program to present to the music club members.

Evanston Music Club and North Shore Musicians Club mourn the loss of our long-time member Joanne Stucka.  Joanne joined the Evanston Music Club in 1974 and was one of our most active and supportive members.  A pianist, she performed frequently in solo and collaborative presentations.  When the music club celebrated its 100th anniversary, Joanne organized a celebration that included her son, Gary Stucka, and some of his fellow cellists from the CSO.  She and other club members donated a stained glass commemorative window in Northwestern’s Lutkin Hall. 

Joanne was a wonderful musician, a devoted mother and grandmother, and a mentor to many club members and other musicians.  She will be sorely missed.

Joanne was kindness personified.

When I first met her over thirty years ago, I’d recently begun adult piano studies after a brief stint as a kid. I was auditioning for some unknown (to me) music clubs which I feared were formal and perhaps beyond my level. I was intimidated and nervous; I’d not performed before, my hands shook on the keys, fingers slid off on slick sweat.

I was to leave before the meeting that voted on on my audition. But as I got up to go, Joanne made a point of coming over to spend some time impressing on me how much it meant to her to hear someone play so musically. She was like a revelation, one that has affected me ever since. She gave me a deep confidence that has seen me through years of study, performance anxiety and challenges, and occasional bouts of self-doubt or fear. That day and conversation were also the beginning for me of a long and rewarding connection with the Evanston Music and North Shore Musicians Clubs. 

Joanne's playing, her taste, expression, professionalism, musicality, and balance with other instruments, were always spot-on. She raised, for me, the level of every ensemble she played in.  

We were just beginning to work together on the two-piano version of Saint-Saens’ Danse Macabre when the pandemic and isolation hit. For a couple of years, we both continued to look forward to what would have been, I’m certain, a wonderful collaboration. But in the last year or two, it became obvious that that dream would remain unfulfilled.

I loved, and will forever love, Joanne. What a rich life she led that so many feel as I do.

I received this notice and with a heavy heart I am writing this condolence note.
I met Joanne thru the Music Clubs many years ago.
I admire her as a person and as a musician. Her kindness and love for music was some of her many qualities.
Every time she heard me perform, she will contact me immediately by phone or by sending me a card applauding my performance. 
I will miss her . My condolences to Gary and the rest of the family.

It was a great pleasure to know Joanne. We were in a prayer group that met after church on Sundays.. Joanne was one of the nicest, most talented people I knew. We often exchanged emails & greeting cards, which I saved. She sent me a video of her & her son Gary making music together. I gave her an orchid plant once. She was so gracious & on my birthday she sent me a card she had made with pictures of orchids. She was so kind & loving . I prayed for her every day. Rest in peace, dear Joanne.🙏🏽❤️
