John A. Severson

John was a graduate of Evanston Township High School, class of 1963. He worked as a Butcher/Meat Market Manager for the majority of his career and retired from Jewel Food Stores in 2006. In addition to his career, John was passionate about helping others, volunteering for the Special Olympics and serving as a Sunday School Teacher/Superintendent at his church.

Outside of his professional and charitable pursuits, John enjoyed many hobbies including photography, cars, skiing, traveling, gardening, and golfing - achieving two holes-in-one. His love for these activities brought joy and fulfillment to his life. John was the family "go to guy" for advice and direction. He always helped wherever and whenever he was needed. He was never too tired or busy to lend a helping hand, especially for his family.

John is survived by his wife, Phyllis Severson (Nowara), whom he married in 1987, and his former wife, Jacquelyn Parr, and their children: Kimberly Bazant (David), Christopher Severson, and Brian Severson. John was also a proud grandfather (Geeps) to his two granddaughters: Madison Severson, and Ana Bazant. John is also survived by his sister Marcia Peterson (Charles), his niece Mary "Lilbet" Neumayer (Joe), and nephews Erik and Karl Neumayer. He was predeceased by his parents Norris and Ada Severson.

John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through the positive impact he made on his community and the love and kindness he shared with his family.

A visitation for John will be held Monday, October 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL. The funeral will take place Tuesday, October 29, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Oehler Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at Noon at Ridgewood Memorial Park, 9900 N. Milwaukee Ave., Des Plaines, IL.
