Lois B. Grote

Lois B. Grote (nee Schalkowski), of Mount Prospect, IL, was born on September 27, 1930 to the late Frank and the late Helen (nee Koskie) Schalkowski and passed away on January 3, 2017. She was the loving wife of the late George Grote; loving mother of Denise Grote, Sharon Grote, Kurt Grote, Marla Wolfe; cherished grandmother of Eric (fiancée, Angela Scapini) Wolfe, Kevin Wolfe; sister of the late Albert (Florence) Schalkowski, the late Raymond (the late Lorraine) Schalkowski, Thelma (the late James) Laturno; sister-in-law of Lorraine (the late Ernest) Thielburg; fond aunt of many nieces and nephews; cousin and friend to many. Lois was raised in Schiller Park, IL and attended East Leyden High School. She worked for the Soo Line Railroad and served in the Navy Reserve during WWII. Lois was happily married to George for 35 years and raised their four children in Chicago, IL before moving to Mount Prospect, IL. She was an active member of St. Thomas Becket Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was the first president of the Women’s Guild. Lois was an avid reader and enjoyed her many hobbies, travels and adventures. Visitation will be on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 4:00-8:00pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St., Des Plaines, IL 60016. On Tuesday, January 10, 2017 Lois will be lying in state from 10:00am until the time of mass at 11:00am at St. Thomas Becket Church, 1321 Burning Bush Ln, Mount Prospect, IL 60056.
