Mary Elizabeth Farrell Rohde, 56, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Mary was born on November 6th, 1960 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a lifelong resident of Des Plaines where she was a business owner and a local politician. She took pride in putting the people of her community first. Mary and David Rohde wed on May 2, 1981 and moved to Des Plaines. Their family grew with the birth of 2 children, Erin Kathleen and David Michael. Her children were a great joy and light in Mary's life. She chose to stay at home with Erin and DJ and started what would become a successful daycare that operated for over 25 years. During that time she worked tirelessly to develop, mold, and educate hundreds of children that she was blessed to be able to love and care for. Mary became widowed at 35 but continued to be a role model, an exemplary parent, and an active political force in spite of the hardships in her life. Mary was known for her generosity and kindness as she cared for both pets and people who needed love and support. Mary was a second mother to countless kids and friends of Erin and DJ over the years. Mary held political offices in both Des Plaines and Maine township and strived to embody her favorite quote by Gandhi, "You must be the change you wish to see in the world". Mary cherished time spent with family and friends, scrapbooking, cooking, being a mother and a grandmother to Matteo. She is survived by her daughter, Erin (Michael) Chapa; son, David Rohde; partner, Binny Uppal; grandson, Matteo Chapa; many loving family members and friends; generations of children that attended her daycare. Mary is preceded in death by Joseph Francis Farrell (father), Evelyn Lilian Farrell (mother), David Richard Rohde (husband) and Michael Dennis Farrell (brother). Arrangements are as follows: Visitation will be on Friday July, 28th from 5-8pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St. Des Plaines, IL 60016. Church service will be held on Saturday July, 29th at 2pm at Immaculate Conception, 7211 W. Talcott Ave. Chicago IL 60631. Both celebrations of Mary’s life are open to any and all family and friends.
