November 3, 2018 – March 5, 2026
It is with immense sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Rhett Koufax Chance, age 7, who passed away on March 5, 2026.
Rhett came into this world on November 3, 2018 to his overjoyed parents Quinn Ebert and Chris Chance. His siblings Jackson, Larkin, and Scarlett were excited to have the last member of the Chance clan born. It was shortly after his birth that our world turned upside down when Rhett was diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic condition called Nonketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH). With this diagnosis came many challenges, but Rhett defied all odds and thrived beyond anything anyone expected.
“Rhetter Spaghetter” was our blue-eyed silly boy who loved to squeal, giggle, kick, bounce, and clap. His infectious smile and laughter filled every room he entered. He was a party animal too. We often would be woken in the middle of the night to loud kicking and roaring chuckles coming from his room. Rhett managed to wake-up every day with a smile on his face and happiness in his heart. He found joy in chaos and loved to listen to his siblings play and the dog bark. School was a place where Rhett thrived, learned, and met milestones we never thought possible. Music was his greatest love. Disney princesses were his favorite, but he also enjoyed Elmo and Cookie Monster. Rhett loved to go for car rides and was a great traveler. He has been to 14 states with his favorite trip being his Make-A-Wish trip to Disney. His star will forever shine bright at Give Kids the World Village in Florida.
Rhett leaves behind a world of people who absolutely loved and adored him. His strength, resilience, and grit will be a continual inspiration to all of us. He will forever be etched in our hearts. Fly high, little bee.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in his honor to either NKH CRUSADERS or to the mikaere foundation to go towards NKH Research.
Visitation will be held on March 12, 2026 from 4:00-8:00pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL. A eulogy will be read in his honor during the visitation. Please meet at the funeral home at 9:00 AM the following day, March 13, to join us for burial services.
