Roy E Johnson, age 95, of Morton Grove passed away peacefully at his home on April 21, 2018. Loving husband of the late Jackie Johnson for 72 years. Son of Swedish immigrants, Jennie and Conrad Johnson. Steadfast father of Lynn, Marcia (Bruce), and Ross (Debra). Beloved Grandfather of Kortnee, Brent, Kris, Abigail and Katherine and great-Grandfather to Parker, Hannah, Lokii, Mavi, Maddie, Audrey, Miller and Harper.
He served in WWII from 1942 until the war was over, ending his stint as a Lieutenant and bombardier in the Air Corps. He returned to Chicago to continue working at the First National Bank of Chicago as a belle hop. After working days and going to school at night for 13 years he graduated with a B.A. in 1953 and a M.B.A. in 1957 from Northwestern University. He retired as Vice-President after 39 years of service from the First National Bank of Chicago.
In his youth, he played basketball extensively in Chicago’s park district league. He became an avid traveler, an accountant for both village and church, a tournament level checkers player, an Alley Cat bowler, a church greeter, and a lifelong Cubs fan -- all while fine-tuning a legendary dry wit.
A memorial service will be at 11 AM on June 30th at the Morton Grove Community Church (8944 Austin Ave, Morton Grove.) In lieu of flowers please donate to the church.
