Born in Chicago on January 23rd, 1947 to Loretta and Emil Kubicki, Sharon grew up surrounded by love and encouraged in her Catholic faith. She attended Saint Hyacinth’s Catholic School, later graduating from Madonna High School. Shortly after high school, Sharon embarked on what would become a long and successful career at Underwriter’s Laboratories, where she participated in the company bowling league.
On a blind date, Sharon met her lifelong companion, Bernie—the two married on August
16th, 1969. After the birth of their son, Michael, and daughter, Lori, the Prokopiaks settled down in Des Plaines, spending their free time taking road trips with family, developing lifelong friendships with their neighbors, and enjoying relaxing weekends at their cabin in Thorp, Wisconsin. Sharon was promoted to grandma after the birth of Michael who fondly remembers hanging out at the cabin and Devin, who fondly remembers having a lunch date when working from home. Sharon also enjoyed special status as a great-grandma to Adah and Everett, whose smiles and affection brought her pure happiness. Throughout her long life, Sharon’s faith remained constant, and she was a dedicated member of Saint Stephen Protomartyr Church. Sharon’s loved ones will remember her fondness for a good manicure, baking banana cream pie, making pickles, horseradish for Easter, playing Spinner, eating lunch at Olive Garden, and collecting duck figurines. She will be deeply missed.
