So Ja Lee

She was the rock to her beloved husband Kil Sam Lee of 48 years, and loving mother to Issac (Mirhee), David (Aimee), Chang (Hannah) and Mieoak (Joseph). Nine grandchildren are blessed with the memory of calling her “할머니” (Hal-meoni, Korean for grandmother).

So Ja was someone who marched to the beat of a different drum. She had a unique lens in how she viewed the world and saw the wonder of Christ in the mundane, everyday rhythms of life. The late singer and songwriter Rich Mullins said, “A spiritual thing is folding your clothes at the end of the day. A spiritual thing is making your bed. A spiritual thing is taking cookies to your neighbor that’s shut in or raking their front lawn because they are too old to do it. That’s spirituality.” This was So Ja - she saw Jesus in everything. Whether it was giving white tube socks as gifts, a passing conversation with a stranger, or serving others with a joy and smile that lit up the darkest room. She somehow never lost the child-like awe and wonder of worshipping Jesus in the everyday, no matter the circumstance. She was the silent but steady force that knit us together and forged our faith.

So Ja did not set out to do great things for God – she simply wanted to be wholly obedient to Him in the next right thing. And by doing so, she weaved a life of unwavering faith that rippled across the lives of hundreds if not thousands during her time with us.

Every Sunday for over 30 years, So Ja and Kil Sam faithfully brought church to Korean vendors across Chicagoland flea markets by handing out a bi-folded Bible passage and a stick of Wrigley’s Spearmint gum, reaching those who couldn’t attend church due to work or lack of exposure to Christ’s love. What began as a ministry for the Korean community blossomed into a tri-lingual outreach serving over 300 people weekly in Korean, English, and Spanish—only pausing when they were no longer physically able to continue.

She now dances with Kil Sam, her brothers, and her parents in the presence of our Lord, realizing the hope in which she steadfastly marched towards all her life.

In keeping with So Ja’s love of bright colors, we request that guests wear lighter color attire to the celebration of life service.

A visitation for So Ja will be held Friday, July 11, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL. A celebration of life service will occur Friday, July 11, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL. 오랫동안 시카고에 거주하셨던 이소자 어머님께서 향년 81세로 2025년 7월 5일 (토요일) 사랑하는 하나님의 품으로 돌아 가셨습니다.

이소자님은 48년 동안 함께한 사랑했던 남편 이길삼님의 튼튼한 버팀목이셨고; 이삭 (Mirhee), 창식 (Aimee), 창용 (Hannah) and 미옥 (Joseph)의 사랑하는 어머니였으며; 9명의 손주들의 사랑하는 할머니셨습니다.

이소자 어머님은 당신의 방식대로 사는 분이셨습니다. 그녀는 세상을 바라보는 독특한 시각을 가지고 계셨고 그녀의 평범하고 일상적인 삶 속에서 예수님의 모습을 보았습니다.

그녀는 집안에만 있는 이웃에게 쿠키와 양말을 가져다 주면서, 연로하신 이웃들을 항상 챙기셨고, 낯선 사람과의 스쳐 지나가는 대화를 통해 기쁨과 미소로 다른 사람들을 섬기는 분이셨습니다.

그녀는 어떤 상황에서도 매일 예수님을 위해 사시는 분이셨습니다. 그녀는 우리를 하나로 묶어 주고 믿음을 키워 주신 분이셨습니다.

그녀는 겸손함으로 주를 섬겼고, 많은 사람들에게 주님의 사랑을 몸소 실천한 분이셨습니다. 30년이 넘는 세월 동안 매주 일요일, 벼룩시장 곳곳의 한인 상인들에게 찾아가서 전도했습니다. 일 때문에 교회에 갈 수 없거나 그리스도의 사랑을 제대로 경험하지 못한 사람들에게 복음을 전했습니다. 단지, 한인 공동체를 위한 사역으로 시작했던 것이 이제는 한국어,영어, 스페인어로 매주 300 명이 넘는 사람들에게 봉사 하는 Outreach Ministry로 발전 했습니다.

그녀는 이제 ... 주님 안에서, 고인이 된 남편, 그녀의 동생들, 그리고 부모님과 함께 천국에서 춤을추며 기뻐 하고 계실 것입니다.

어머니는 평소에 밝은 색을 좋아 하셨으므로 장례식에 참석 하시는 모든 분들은 밝은 색상의 옷을 입고 오셨으면 좋겠습니다.
