David M. Heinowski left his time on this earthly plane on November 20th, 2025. He was born on January 4, 1955 in Lansing Michigan to Carl (Bud) Heinowski, Jr. and Bernadette (Marty) Heinowski, nee Martin, who preceded him in death. He lived in Portland, Michigan for the first five years of his life followed by his family moving to Hillsdale.
Dave attended St. Anthony Catholic Church, and elementary and junior high at St. Anthony Catholic School in Hillsdale. He progressed to Hillsdale High School where he participated in track and field, and gymnastics. He was also in student government and was elected president of his senior class. He graduated in 1973 and received the Turner Cup award for outstanding leadership in service to the school, class, and community. Dave went on to Michigan State University study community management and simultaneously took classes at Lansing Community College in property tax assessment and administration. He graduated from MSU in 1977.
Dave’s career first spanned from 1973 to 2005 in various city, township, and county entities in property taxation, and private companies in property tax management. In 2005 he formed his own LLC, Heinowski Appraisal and Consulting, appraising commercial and industrial properties from factories to shopping malls, casinos to small businesses to race tracks and power plants, including hydroelectric dams for the purpose of property tax appeals and management. He loved his work as it was always different with each new assignment. During his career he belonged to Michigan Assessor’s Association, and the International Association of Assessing Officers. He made a great number of wonderful friends in these two organizations from around the state and the country. Dave retired in 2019 due to health restrictions, but always looked back on his career with fondness.
In 1979, Dave married Pamela Wooton and they have spent 46 loving married years together. In those years they lived in Lapeer, Ypsilanti, Canton, and Dexter. Pamela and their three children, Scott (Danielle), Kay (Colleen), and Megan (Cody) survive him. He is also survived by his three brothers, Bill (Kathy), Rick (Lori) and Jim (Carol), and his sister, Anne Nagi (Paul), six nieces and nephews, and five grand nieces and nephews.
Dave loved to travel with the family. He could not go a trip without seeking out the historic homes in a community and seeking to tour them all, or as many as he could convince his family to go to. He also had a refreshing enthusiasm for Disney World. His family remembers him best for his corny sense of humor and puns; for sitting on the floor with the kids putting together Lego creations, for his love for antique and collector cars, and his amazing ability to remember every restaurant that he ever ate in and what he ate there.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation and a funeral service at Hosmer-Muehling Funeral Chapel, 3410 Broad Street, Dexter, MI. 48130.
