

Dexter- Elizabeth “Betty” Luella Smith, 81, of Dexter, passed away Tuesday, April, 19, 2016, after a long illness. She was born on June 20, 1934, in Detroit to Basil J. and Elizabeth Kennedy. On February 7, 1953, she married Max Smith and he survives. She is also survived by four sons Michael (Mary Jo) of Jonesville; Robert (Kelly) from Pinckney; Thomas (Lori) from Milan; James from Milford; two daughters, Mary Beth Protske (Timothy) from Milan and Lisa Vollmers (James) from Dexter; twenty-one grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother Robert (Joanne) from Howell; one sister Mary Anne Lyberg (Matthew) from Charlotte, North Carolina and one brother-in-law, Jack Walsh (Delores) from Centreville, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister and one son, John Patrick Smith.
Betty was employed by the Ann Arbor Public Schools for twenty-five years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dexter where she served as a Eucharistic Minister as a member of the Home Bound/Outreach Ministry. She enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren, gardening and writing poetry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April, 25, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6805 Mast Road, Dexter, Michigan with a preceding visitation at 10:00 a.m. There will be a visitation on Sunday, April 24th from 4:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m. at the church. A scripture service will be held beginning at 7:00 p.m.
