Pat was born June 28th, 1950, in Hazel Park to James and Caroline Murray. As parents to four boys (Jim [deceased], Mike, Pat, and Tom), James and Caroline had their hands full while the four boys caused mischief around their hometown of Ferndale.
After graduating from St. James High School in Ferndale, Pat found a career in design engineering, allowing him to use his artistic gift to enrich corporate America. Early in his career, he was involved in the design of the Hasbro game “Hungry Hungry Hippos” and later rounded out his career in the automotive industry. Pat completed his working life by retiring in 2013.
Pat had several creative talents and hobbies, including drawing, painting, writing music, and playing the guitar. Other talents and hobbies included making up curse words while repairing cars, avoiding large crowds and social events, traveling less than 10 miles from home, funding school construction projects through the Michigan Lottery Club Keno “Donation” Program, and was a self-licensed Jim Beam enthusiast.
Pat had a strong knack for creative humor which he instilled on his three surviving boys, Joshua (Carrie), Sean (Samantha), and Andrew (cats), and his “adopted daughter”, Jaquelin (Zach). Some of his best and hardest times were spent as a single father raising his three boys in South Lyon, his hometown since 1993. Pat will be deeply missed by those that lovingly referred to him as “Papa” -- Autumn, Alissa, Lexi, Joel, Cameron, Caleb, and Waylon – Papa will miss you, too.
Although Pat was voluntarily confined to a rocking recliner after retirement, he had previously lived on both the East Coast and West Coast of the United States and has traveled to every state in between.
In lieu of flowers, Pat requests that donations be sent to the DNC, just to annoy Mike. All kidding aside, in lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
Pat’s presence and sense of humor will be fondly remembered by his friends and family. His memory will live on in the art he created, the music he played, and the laughter he shared. Patrick’s quiet strength and creativity will have left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
